(Source: Dassana’s Veg Recipes)

Halwa or sheera is one of the classic Indian desserts. And this Father’s Day, you can make your own mango halwa easily! All you need is:

  • 1 cup fine sooji or rawa
  • 1 mango, chopped and pureed
  • 1/2 cup sugar (adjust as required)
  • 2 tbsp ghee or oil
  • 1 cup (250ml) milk
  • 1.5 cups water
  • Dry fruits as required
  • Pinch of saffron
  • 3-4 green cardamoms, powdered

Heat the ghee or oil in a thick-bottomed pan and add the sooji until it changes colour. Add dry fruits and allow them to fry for a few minutes.

Heat the water and add the hot water to your sooji mixture, stirring well to combine. Add the milk and sugar, allowing the sooji to absorb the water and milk. After 1-2 minutes, add the mango puree and stir until combined. Then add cardamom powder and saffron and keep stirring until the moisture reduces.

Cover your mango halwa/sheera and let it cook for 1-2 minutes. You can then serve it hot or cold!
